[attr="class","iden"] [attr="class","title"]Identification Full Name: Apollo Maximinus Zoroaster Aliases: Antlion, Max, Runt, Warpath Date of Birth: 19th of August Zodiac Sign: Leo Sexuality: Heterosexual Crew: --- Alignment: Chaotic Good Personal Jolly Roger: Leon Nemeios [attr="class","appear"] [attr="class","title"]Appearance Height: 6’ 0” Weight: 180 lbs Hair Color: Bright red that is usually cut short and messy, though he always leaves the sideburns long. Eye Color: Teal Attire: Because Apollo usually travels most of the time, he spends most of that time decked in his customary armor with a dark blue tunic underneath. This armor is grayish blue with much lighter grayish blue trim and is often accompanied by a single gray pauldron made of steel. It covers his shoulders, torso, and hips. On his legs is a pair of very dark blue pants held up with a belt that has his personal Jolly Roger or plain red glass on its buckle, and on top of those are his shiny metal shin guards. Notably, he never wears shoes unless absolutely necessary. When traveling through places with harsher weather like a desert or tundra, he often wears a thick black cloak with brown trim for the latter and a white blue cloak with gray trim for the former. Abnormalities: Apollo is a humanoid lion with human facial features. His hands and feet are tipped with sharp claws, though they aren’t retractable. His entire body is covered in pale orange fur with cream highlights on his face, hands, forearms, fee, legs, and front torso. His face in particular has an orange fur stripe on each side of his face, which contrasts with the dominant cream fur on said area. His eyes are a bright, almost unnatural-looking teal, which is the norm for his particular bloodline but highly unusual amongst other lion beastfolk. He also has slitted pupils and sharp teeth -especially the canines- making him look a bit more animalistic than he already does. |

[attr="class","bg"] [attr="class","title"]Background In the island of Little Garden in the Grand Line, there lies a hidden tribe of lion beastfolk that have lived alongside the dinosaurs and other ancient life forms for many generations. Not just living, but thriving as the dominant species in the area though they remain hidden and reclusive due to their distrust of visitors. Theirs was a tribe that valued strength and valor in battle above all else, and it showed in their choice in chieftain, who was usually the most powerful and courageous warrior in the tribe. Julius Zoroaster, the then-leader of the tribe, knew of these expectations. Thus, he prayed to the gods and offered many sacrifices to them constantly to bless him with a child that would have the strength to be able to succeed him and keep the leadership position in their line. While he had a lot of children from his concubines, he wanted his heir to come from his primary wife Anastasia. He thought that he had gotten what he wished for when Anastasia bore him a son. In fact, he was so ecstatic that he named his son after the favored god of his clan, Apollo. However, it soon became apparent that the gods were mocking him, since the boy was small, weak, and even sort of sickly compared to the other children since birth. At first everyone thought that the boy was going to grow out of it and become a strong, tough lion since it was in his very genes to be one, but in his childhood alone it was evident that the boy simply didn’t have the super strength that all lionfolk were born with on the island. In fact, he wasn’t anything like the other rough-and-tumble beastfolk with his kind and sweet demeanor and his natural inquisitiveness. The only silver lining about him was that he did grow out of his sickliness. Convinced that it was a test from the gods, Julius tried to beat that strange attitude out of him with his constant training and sparring. He wasn’t going to have some dreamy wuss as the eventual heir to his tribe! And Apollo, always eager to please other people –his daddy in particular- took it all in stride despite the blood, pain, and tears in order to try and please him. It seemed to be for naught though, because no matter how fast and skilled Apollo got, he simply wasn’t suited for his family’s martial art. Not his build, his demeanor, and especially not with his lack of the superb strength that was supposedly in every lionfolk. It got so bad that the others suggested the kid of one of his concubines to succeed instead. But Julius wasn’t going to have any of that. Instead, in a desperate hope for Apollo to learn some viciousness to make up for his lack of strength, he sent the then-twelve year old to the wilderness with literally nothing but the fur on his skin for a year to toughen him up or have him die there despite his wife’s protests. Apollo was horrified but went along with it anyway because it wasn’t like he could run away anywhere else. The first few days were a struggle as he had nothing but his own body and his skills to survive the elements and the many dangerous dinosaurs that lurked within the wilderness. However, despite his physical disadvantages Apollo slowly but surely figured out a way to survive, but just barely. It was into his first month when he discovered a shipwreck off the coast in an area where his brethren never frequent. In his curiosity, he looked around the area and saw nothing but wrecked wood and broken stuff for the most part. There was also a lot of gold but he left that alone for now since it was useless to him at the moment. There was also a strange thing that with a two colored needle that refused to move, so he left that there as well. In fact, the only thing that he took along with him was the single living –but unconscious- creature on board who was barely holding onto life amidst the corpses that littered the area. Despite his misgivings, Apollo couldn’t find it in himself to just leave the guy somewhere to die or eat him like some of his more unscrupulous brethren would do so he took care of the guy back to health while fighting for survival. Once the guy had healed up, Apollo asked him to introduce himself. The person he had saved turned out to be a young Hyena beastman named Li, who had been traveling with his parents when a sudden freak storm appeared and smashed the ship into the rocky coast of that part of the island, causing the ship to become wrecked and most people to die. Taking pity on Li, Apollo decided to continue harboring the orphan despite being younger and smaller. In exchange, Li swore his loyalty to Apollo and promised to protect him and become his blood brother for what he had done for him. Survival in the wilderness became much easier after that, as once fully healed and acclimatized to the environment Li proved to be even more efficient at survival and battle than Apollo himself, a fact that annoyed the lion to no end. Things went well for the remaining months… for the most part anyway. However, on the last day of Apollo’s survival training, they were cornered by an absolutely enormous dinosaur that towered even over the infamous T-Rex after trying to run away while holding a huge amount of fish. Li tried to beat it since he knew that he was the better fighter, only to be mauled. Seeing Li mauled and about to be eaten triggered Apollo’s rage for the very first time in his life, making him get lost in a haze of red as he let his anger run through him for the first time. With strength that he never knew he had, he roared and ripped through the predator by overpowering it and tearing it to pieces with his bare hands with a strength that his brethren would envy. It was heard by other large dinosaur predators and they also attacked to take advantage of the blood and mayhem, only to be ripped apart by the murderous Apollo to. Hearing a loud, angry roar and a loud commotion, Julius and Anastasia –fearing for their child’s life- went off to investigate with some warriors, expecting the worst. What they did not expect to see when they got there was their son in makeshift clothes covered head to toe in blood, head bowed and on his knees as he was surrounded by a river of blood and a multitude of corpses while an injured and decidedly cleaner Li was comforting him and trying to bring him back to his feet. The group wasted no time in bringing Apollo and Li back to the village to treat their wounds and remove the blood from their bodies while the others dragged off the carcasses to be turned into food, clothing, and even armor for the village. At first Julius and the others thought that Li had been the one to save Apollo from the dinosaurs, but Li told them otherwise and said that Apollo ripped them all apart with his bare hands. However, even after extracting the full story of Apollo’s survival test from the hyena and Apollo, everyone but Julius refused to believe that Apollo had done it. In fact, the others demanded that Julius throw his child back in the wilderness again because his son obviously cheated by having someone help him, but Julius refused because he believed his son and Li. Just to spite them, he even adopted Li into his own family after hearing that he had sworn his loyalty to his son. Apollo then spent the next three years back at his home village, learning under his father again while having a new brother around. He was still treated much the same, except for his father who kept trying to throw him into situations to try and trigger the anger that Li said had killed all of those dinosaurs, something even he as the chieftain could not do without an entire hunting party. Despite puberty making Apollo’s emotions more unstable, he was still too nice to actually do more than frown at someone and remembering what he had done in the heat of his anger made him even more reluctant to rise to the bait. Soon though, when he had turned sixteen the other villagers demanded that he take the test again as they had every year. This time they were particularly pushy about it, threatening to overthrow Julius if he didn’t let Apollo take it without cheating this time. At this point Julius was a bit desperate to prove his adopted son’s story true so he finally acquiesced and forced Apollo to go back to the wilderness the same way he came four years ago – naked and alone. This time though they placed him on the most desolate and isolated part of the island, which was on the other side of it while having him tied up and blindfolded. Despite Li’s and Anastasia’s protests Apollo let them do it to him, leaving him alone in that part of the island by himself. Being naked for most of the first two days in his second year-long venture into the wilderness for days left its mark on him, so it left him dizzy and delirious from the lack of food and water. He was so tired that when he finally found a stream with a strange fruit tree he wasted no time in drinking his fill as well as eating the horrible-tasting lone fruit it had. After drinking his fill, he took a bath in the stream and ignored how weak he felt in the water. Soon after that, Apollo managed camp there for the night. In the morning, Apollo drank again, but once he drank his fill and took his bath he spent some time soaking up the sun’s rays and idly resting. While letting his mind wander, he felt a little thirsty again but ignored it and continued playing with the water, which lasted for all of five minutes before he realized that he was playing with air. In confusion, he looked down to see that the entire stream had dried out all of a sudden, leaving only the flopping fishes behind. Confused but not wanting to question this mixed fortune, he scooped up all of the fish he could get and ate some of them. He then tried to figure out how to store the rest of them for later and wished that he could dry them, when lo and behold the ones he were holding dried up before his very eyes. What was even weird was that he felt himself sucking up the moisture, which felt really strange and creepy yet like drinking. Experimenting with this new discovery, he quickly figured out that he can drain the moisture out of plants and animals alike. Trying to do the same on rocks and stuff that weren’t alive tended to make them crumble into sandy pieces instead. It took him a couple of days to figure out and gain enough control over the power so that he wasn’t drying up any more water sources. Over the course of the year he was in the wilderness, he kept discovering new things ever since he ate that horrible-tasting lifesaver fruit. The most shocking of which was his body being able to turn to and produce sands of all kinds. After he got a handle on most of the powers, it made survival much easier for him because it made him much harder to try and eat. He wasn’t able to access that monstrous strength that enabled him to go psycho on those dinosaurs but he figured that this was a better deal since it allowed his creativity to go wild. The only downside was that it was very lonely all alone in the wild this time around, though now he could survive better as a teenager. At the end of that year, Apollo returned to his village successful. This time the villagers shut up since Apollo was able to survive and pass the test. That earned him some respect and rapport with the villagers, though not much. However, Julius was disappointed when Apollo didn’t mention any more incidents of strength. The young lion also kept his devil fruit a secret from everyone except his mom and adopted brother Li. The year he spent in the village after that was normal for his standards, and he was as happy as he could be with his dad still trying to get him angry all the time. At his 18th birthday, it was decided that he do the traditional coliseum battle for his coming-of-age ceremony. Julius, along with a couple of his friends and the unwitting help of his adopted son, arranged to infuriate the young lion during this phase, mostly in order to please Julius because his actions were starting to bug everyone. Frankly even Julius thought Li was hallucinating and was going through the motions at this point. What they all didn’t know was that one of the lions –one of Apollo’s half-brothers named Anthony- was using this as an opportunity to kill the heir and his mother so that he could rise up to his dad’s position as the rightful chief. So what he did was kidnap Anastasia a few hours before the match after arranging it so that he and his buddies would be the ones to fight Apollo in the coliseum. On the day itself, that lion executed his plan flawlessly despite Li overhearing and trying to interfere. In fact, they used him as a second hostage. Apollo was ready to fight fair without using his mysterious powers from the fruit. At first, the fight began relatively equal with Apollo doing well despite the numbers disadvantage. But when Apollo started outmaneuvering his Anthony and pushing him into a corner despite his strength disadvantage, Anthony used his secret weapon and showed Apollo the hostages while being surrounded by his buddies and threatened to kill them should he try to fight. Julius tried to interfere, only to be blocked by the other high-ranking villagers due to tradition. This, along with all of the stress he had been undergoing recently, was enough to finally send him over the edge into a state of utter rage. Only Li had recognized the signs and started telling everyone to start running, only to be laughed at. That was their last mistake as they tried to swarm and overpower Apollo as a group, only to be torn to pieces by a suddenly much-stronger Apollo in the throes of his rage like they were paper. Now while beating up people was encouraged in lion culture, murder was still a no-no despite the fact that they young ones were technically committing a crime. So the guards tried to arrest the raging lion, only for them to be killed by the rage-addled Apollo too. Li managed to get himself and Anastasia free in time to get to safety, knowing enough about his brother to know that he had to calm down or else he’d be killed along with the others. More and more people tried to stop Apollo as he rampaged out of the coliseum and onto the village, only to be severely injured or killed by the furious feline. No one was able to stop the furious Apollo until he ran out of steam, killing roughly a third of the villagers and some pesky dinosaurs while instinctively wandering towards the place where he had met Li in the process. Once he had snapped out of it, the villagers surrounded him and tried to kill him for what he had done, only for Apollo to panic and lose control of his powers, causing them to either be shredded by sand or become withered away by his dehydration powers. In his horror of what he had done, he had run towards a random direction… leading him to his house at the edge of the village. His mother and Li met him there and told him that he had killed his own father in his murderous rampage and now the villagers want him dead for his crimes. With those thoughts in mind, his mother gave him his father’s ancestral sword, some clothes and some other things. Then she begged him to escape with Li out to the unknown world beyond the horizons so that Apollo wouldn’t be executed. After a tearful goodbye, Apollo and Li fled back towards the ruins of the ship where he had found Li and took the strange compass that Li called a log pose, then left on the old dinghy that was still intact on the ship after making sure it was still sturdy. That did not stop some of the villagers from going after them with their own boats. Due to this problem, Li told Apollo that he would act as decoy while the young lion escaped and that once he had succeeded confusing them then they will meet up again. Apollo tried to refuse but Li wouldn’t hear of it. So after they arrived on the next island in the Grand Line the two separated ways with Li leading the lions to chase him around while Apollo took another route by sneaking aboard another ship. It has been two years since that fateful series of events. Apollo has gotten into a lot of messes since then and has garnered notoriety and nicknames like Warpath and Antlion after inadvertently being labeled as a wanted criminal by the lions looking for him and the people he had inadvertently pissed off in his adventures. Now he roams around looking for his adopted brother Li and a purpose in life now that he can never be the chief of his village. |
