[attr="class","iden"] [attr="class","title"]Identification [break] Full Name: Miguel Alejandro Hidalgo | Sanguinius[break] Aliases: Admiral Gintaka (Silver Hawk)[break] Date of Birth: 25th of November[break] Zodiac Sign: Sagittarius[break] Sexuality: Heterosexual[break] Crew: Adeptus Astartes[break] Alignment: Lawful Neutral[break] Personal Jolly Roger: Knight Templar [attr="class","appear"] [attr="class","title"]Appearance [break] Height: 7’ 10”[break] Weight: 285 lbs[break] Hair Color: Spiky white hair cut short and left wild, mostly because it can’t be tamed.[break] Eye Color: Gold[break] Attire: While on official Marine duty, Miguel often dons custom-made close-fitting gray or silver suits with black accents, pockets, and cuffs. These are paired with a black button-up vest and polo shirt inside them along with a silver, white, or gray tie. On rare occasions, he may choose to wear a black suit with silver accents instead. These suits, vests, and polo shirts all have special slots that allow his wings to fit through them and move freely. His Marine’s Justice Coat is draped over his shoulders like a cape, effectively hiding his wings. When not on duty, he tends to eschew the suit and the uniform altogether, preferring a simple shirt or wife-beater and jeans combo under his favorite black and red hooded leather trench coat. Of course, the shirts and wife-beaters have the same slots that his suits have, but his trench coat does not because he uses it to hide his wings. He usually wears black combat boots and a hat as well, the latter to try and hide his identity with.[break] Abnormalities: He has a pair of wings on his back that are normally small, but they are actually enormous at full size. These wings are silver instead of the usual white, and are more akin to the downward shape of Birkan wings instead of the usual upward Shandian wings. His personal jolly roger is tattooed on his upper back, directly in the center and just barely avoiding his wings. There are numerous scars all over his body, not only a mark of his constant training but also that of his past. |

[attr="class","bg"] [attr="class","title"]Background [break] Most of the time, destiny never goes the way one planned it. A Shandian warrior named Ryoga thought that he was one of the exceptions with the perfect life that he carved out of his own two hands, with a perfect position as the Shandian chief’s favourite warrior, a loving and dutiful wife in the form of Gabriela, bountiful harvests in his own little parcel of Vearth, and the respect of his fellow warriors and tribesmen. The birth of Sanguinius was something he thought to have furthered his good fortune, even though the boy had been born with strangely-shaped silver wings, gold eyes, and hair as white as the clouds. He took his beautiful silver wings as a sign from their God that he was destined for something great and as such he and his wife treated the child like he was their greatest treasure. However, not all people felt that way. Most of the other tribesmen and their children were leery about the small child with the seemingly-unnatural wings, thinking it to be some sort of omen from their God. However, most of them didn’t want to antagonize the overprotective Ryoga because he had the chief’s ear, so they just tried to stay neutral about the boy. Despite that, Sanguinius could still feel something off about most of the people that approached him even as a baby and tended to cry when most of them were, confusing his parents. Unknown to them, this was his Mantra was already manifesting. This didn’t stop Sanguinius from having a normal early childhood, mainly because his mother and father forced him to interact with other people despite his misgivings. However, things started to go a bit downhill when his father started him on combat training at the age of five. At first, there seemed to be no problems when he started on forms. In fact, it was quite the opposite since he picked up the forms at an astounding rate. The problem was when it came to sparring. For some bizarre reason, he kept seeing clones of his sparring partners and weird flashes wherein his sparring partners were doing something that they ended up doing again seconds later, causing his strikes to go awry when he tried to hit the wrong one. At first he thought it was just a trick of the light, but when it kept happening and messing him up, he started becoming annoyed at the phantoms and the visions and told his father about them. Believing his child to be cursed, he brought him to their priest and asked for his help. Having never heard of this before, the priest just advised them to send him to the forest and beg their God Nola to lift the curse. Since it would be really dangerous and might end up getting him killed, his father decided not to let Sanguinius do it. However, this decision ended up with Sanguinius’ skills and self-esteem suffering due to his constant failure at sparring matches despite mastering the forms and theory perfectly. It also got him jeering and avoidance from his peers due to his sudden cursed status, lowering his morale even more. He even started to feel worthless and replaceable when he had two normal siblings born into the world. Sanguinius tolerated this for four years before, taking their constant insults and teasing with his head held high. However, when his father’s status started to slip due to his poor showing and he overheard others –including his siblings- calling him a failure, he finally couldn’t take it anymore and decided to go to Nola and ask it to take his curse away, whether his parents agreed or not. Thus, one night he ran away into the Upper Yard to search for Nola and spent the next week there while hiding from anyone else in the area. Unfortunately, he was caught by a stranger with wings similar to his –though white instead of silver- after managing to catch a glimpse of the God. This stranger then made him fight for his life, which he obliged despite still having problems with his sight. However, he lost very quickly and was left at the mercy of this stranger, who demanded to know why he came into a forbidden zone. Having nothing else left to lose, he spilled the beans about his curse and his need to ask Nola to get rid of it. The stranger, recognizing the signs and the potential this had, quickly talked him out of it and convinced him that what he had wasn’t a curse, but the manifestation of a rare and wonderful blessing- Mantra. He then introduced himself as offered to teach him about it in exchange for the dials he had on him and the knowledge of the other races of Skypieans. Wary and skeptical but utterly desperate to find a way to control his apparent gift so that he can finally fight properly, he accepted. He was then lead out of the Upper Yard and into Birka, where he spent the next three years of his life being trained by his new master Genma and his friends in his Mantra. Most of those three years he spent with his new teachers as he finally figured out what those phantoms and visions were and eventually managed to control them as well as use them to his advantage. Not only that, but he had figured out that he could sense people with it. Once he had finally removed the only thing holding him back, his combat skills increased exponentially to the point that he could easily go toe-to-toe with any one of his teachers bar his master at the end of those three years. He did not only train but he also acted as one of his master’s helpers in order to try and pay back what he had done for him. Despite all of his improvements though, he still missed his family. That was why at the end of those three years, he decided to leave Birka and head back to Skypiea, promising to always remember them and to find a way to pay them back in full for everything. Just to show his people that he wasn’t a useless failure, he decided to disguise himself and challenge some of the warriors once he had arrived at Skypiea. Being the proud warriors they were, they accepted Sanguinius’ challenge, not knowing that it was him under that disguise. With his Mantra and the full use of his skills, he managed to easily trounce them despite only being 13 and holding himself back by not flying or using his wings. Once he had won, he was brought to the chief and applauded for his great show of skill before being asked to remove his cloak. Suffice to say, he had shocked them when he had taken off his cloak and flexed his silver wings, revealing himself to be the cursed child who was thought to have been eaten by Nola all those years ago. The shocked chief asked where he had been for the past three years, only for Sanguinius to dodge around the question and simply said that his curse was no longer a problem because someone helped him with it. Deciding not to question him further even though the rest of tribal elders’ curiosity was peaked, he called for the boy’s family. The family was confused as to why they were summoned by the chieftain, but it quickly turned to shock when they saw the older, bigger Sanguinius in front of them. A tearful family reunion ensued after both parents and his siblings punched him for running away to the Upper Yard without saying a word and disappearing for three years. After the joyful celebration that came with Sanguinius’ return and the apparent lifting of his curse, life seemed to be great for a while now that everyone seemed to like him. However, Sanguinius’ developing Mantra could sense something different about them, as if they were even more off than before. Little did he know that he was actually sensing their newfound jealousy and insecurity that they try to hide. He tried to mingle with people more, but that feeling kept putting him off and pushing him away from the others. Unlike the time before he had left, he had learned to trust his gut feeling. Unlike him though, his father and the rest of his family capitalized on his new popularity. Unfortunately, Sanguinius’ gut proved to be right. A few months after he had returned, a massacre happened in the village while everyone was sleeping. A couple of his father’s jealous rivals pinned it on him and his father. Unfortunately, despite his best efforts to prove their innocence under tribal law… he failed due to the very nature of his own people’s laws. As such, he and his father were banished to a desert cloud. However, before they were able to be transported to the desert cloud, Sanguinius and his father managed to escape to the Grand Line by knocking out all the guards, robbing them of all their dials and then floating down by using the same Octopus Balloon that they were planning on using to transport them to the desert cloud with. They managed to somehow land on Namakura Island, where they were almost immediately attacked by the weird-looking wingless natives. They managed to fight them off and hijack a boat to leave in… only to realize that they had absolutely no idea where they were going. They were subsequently captured by slavers a few days, who easily outmanoeuvred the weakened and starving Shandians them in the waters. Even worse, father and son were separated by the slavers to different ships heading in different directions, with his going to what he would later know as Sabaody Archipelago. Sanguinius has never seen his father since. Once he was there, he was placed in an auction house wherein he was first treated as some sort of sideshow freak with his silver wings and bizarre hairstyle, complete with torture on the side that he retaliated to by using insults. Because of his unruly behaviour and his unknown species –mostly because Sanguinius refused to say what he was- they held off on selling him for two months and just used him as a display piece. After two months, he was finally placed in heavy chains and full-body restraints and showed off to the potential buyers, figuring that they had to shut his mouth in order to get a buyer interested in him. Unsurprisingly, a lot of buyers were interested in such a young, exotic specimen, which led to an intense bidding war. A distinguished old gentleman with a beard managed to win him as a slave, and he was promptly transported to his new home. At first, Sanguinius had to be constantly disciplined because he rebelled against doing a lot of the chores. However, he soon quickly wised up and decided to pretend to be dutiful in order to be able to recuperate his body and break free from the place. During that time, his owner had taken a particular interest in him and began badgering him with questions about his name, identity, and history. He stubbornly refused to answer and pretended that he was mute. Surprisingly though, he wasn’t punished for withholding the information, and he didn’t know why. A few months before his 15th birthday, Sanguinius’ body had finally recovered from all of the abuse and malnutrition he had suffered and had returned to its former glory –maybe even stronger, in fact. His owner was still trying to pry information out of him in a pleasant manner, but he was still not saying anything. Weirdly enough, he had been making strange remarks about him looking like something called an angel as well as befriending him by giving him extra food and even some books to read. Much better treatment than what he got in that terrible place, but it still wasn’t enough to convince him to stay and be a slave. Therefore he decided to try and escape from the man’s house. Unfortunately, Sanguinius was caught and easily subdued by his owner. Instead of locking him up somewhere though, he was just bandaged up and left to do his normal duties with the threat of death should he try to escape again. A few days after that, his owner revealed himself as one of the Gorosei, brought him in front of the rest of them, and then made him an offer: freedom from slavery in exchange for becoming a marine and pretending to be a real angel, their angel. He agreed and was immediately sent to the marines after having his name changed by the Gorosei to become Miguel Alejandro Hidalgo. With the Gorosei’s blessing, he entered the Academy and breezed through it due to his training, discipline, and sheer determination. He was then placed onto a station within the Grand Line, wherein he began his quick and meteoric rise to power, helped by his ambition, intellect and his growing reputation as the angel of the marines. He made a name for himself as one of the most ruthless yet fair marines around, respected and feared by criminals and fellow marines alike. It also helped that he had the Gorosei’s propaganda backing him up. Even as a captain at the age of 19, he had begun to declare war against slavery and discrimination. He became one of the foremost promoters of equality and justice, giving him a lot more popularity and support not just amongst his fellow marines, but the citizens and even some pirates as well. He used his terrible experiences in the past to fuel his determination to see this through. After only 11 years of service in the marines, he was promoted to Admiral after five bloody skirmishes that ended up with all of the pirates involved dead or in Impel Down. As the youngest and newest of the admirals, Sanguinius –now Miguel or Admiral Gintaka- felt that there was still a lot more for him to prove, especially given his experiences and his past. Now in the present, he has made a name for himself as the coldest of the Admirals, as well as one of the most awe-striking marines there is today. |
