Attire: Maou is fit and athletic, though small for a guy of his age and size. He has a cut form, with his muscles built upon his training in striking martial arts as he focuses not on gaining superior strength and muscle mass but a fit body which allowed him to stay slim yet trim. Maou in terms of "specialty" as a martial artist is a "athletic-type" meaning that his physique is fit more for sharpness than pure muscle power and spped.

Because of his like of martial arts, he dons light-fitting clothing like sleeveless shirts and shorts that have a high-cut which allows him to move the way he wishes to unlike sleeved clothing. Sometimes he can be seen wearing bandages on his hands, it's called a trademark of his by many of his friends or associates. In times of rainy or icy weather, he wears hoodies, whether sleeveless or otherwise even doing so normally on some days.

For his uniform, he doesn't care much for following the rules to the letter. But he always dons his coat and hat, for two reasons, one, they both signify him as a marine and two, the coat is very stylish and cool.[break]

• ✔ Playful - Dark is very playful to friend and foe alike. He doesn't take most things seriously, unless it's competitive and in most cases doesn't take that seriously either. He especially likes to street fight, brawling against strong foes being where he shows both a playful yet strong side. Rarely does he get angry at others, and is very easy to get along with, however some may dislike his lack of seriousness which may cause bad blood to boil among his peers and friends.
  
• ✔ Kind - Although Dark does like fighting, he is a fairly kind person who doesn't wish to kill anyone unless its the only step he can take after trying anything else. He does however understand that fighting can bring out the worse in people. He can sometimes give things to people as charity, though he never allows people to walk all over him, he is not above allowing a person's pride give them the "win" on occasion. He will also help a person that has nothing to do with him, just because he feels like it.
  
• ✔ Loyal - He has great loyalty with those he befriends, even if for a short time. He believes that friendship is key to increasing his strength. He will protect his "friends" even if they do something bad. Though he won't allow their "bad deed" to go unpunished and will knock them back on track or off their egos. He can also border on gullible towards his closest friends.
  
• ✔ Open-minded - He doesn't have the "Absolute" Justice mentality, and doesn't consider all pirates or criminals bad just because they are called "bad". He takes their actions into consideration and how they present themselves as "people" rather than as law versus chaos. This is despite what happened to him while he was young. However just because he isn't adverse to befriending pirates or those considered criminals doesn't mean that if they cause too big an event to overlook, he won't take them into Impel Down.
  
• ✔ Reliable - Dark may look like a dumb-ass to most who consider his playfulness a fact of idiocy, but he is someone who can be relied on as he wishes to actively protect and be looked at as strong whether it is towards his friends or his allies he gives everything his all. He finds that if he isn't going to do things at his best, why do anything at all.

• ✘ Battle Fanaticism - Dark is a fight monger, he is highly interested in fighting skilled opponents for fun, rather than for survival. He takes fights against most opponents seriously, especially against those who are skilled in their own martial skills (weapons or unarmed). He understands multiple skills, and practices his martial arts everyday. He has a penchant for boxing though, as it was his first martial art and he uses the footwork and has adapted it to multiple other skills he has learned. When he explains a martial technique, he is considered a "walking encyclopedia" despite not being exceptionally book smart.
  
• ✘ Sarcastic - Thanks to his playful nature he also has a weird sense of humor for most things. He is not easy to understand, and can even come off as a jerk when it comes to his jokes. But he usually means well, and tries to see the fun in anything.
  
• ✘ Selfish - Although a kind person, Maou can be selfish too. He doesn't mind giving up small things, or doing tasks that have smaller values but usually does what he feels he wishes too without asking the opinions of others. Due to his interest in action, and a keen thirst for adventure he isn't one to shy away just because of a high risk of danger. He takes matters into his own hands, and is one to take responsibility for his actions if the need should arises and is reasonably so, but otherwise, he likes his own personal freedoms.
  
• ✘ Emotional - Dark can be emotional not controlling his emotions well in desperate situations. Depending on what happens, he tends to roll greater with his instincts than his logic and of course is someone easily goaded by way of using things that are important to him as a catalyst and shows a seething anger (though he doesn't actually show it and just does what he feels) or whatever entails, also showing regret and anguish when something serious happens and he is the person at fault. He even cries when he is happy or sad about a certain event, not believing that men should hold back their emotions. The biggest event that makes him saddest is his parents death, which will instantly cause him silence and withdrawal changing his personality for a moments time, thus he doesn't like to talk about it. He holds a grudge against opponents who hold their wins or beat him and it's not for sport, usually making strong fighters his rivals on the spot.
  
• ✘ Prideful - Yes he is playful, but he can be competitive, too. Sometimes he takes things too far when he meets a strong adversary, and has a powerful will thanks to that pride alone making him very stubborn. Although he doesn't get angry when others talk about him, his friends, family and peers are different. He will fight tooth and nail for an apology someone who bad mouths his friends if they are sacrificing something, even if it's another friend.

Dark was orphaned at a young age, and treated as a street urchin, living day by day for survival. Often he was weak and couldn't get by himself except by begging or crying showcasing a stark contrast to his current personality. During one such day, he saw a marine who had exceptional martial arts skills to defend himself against bandits, seeing this for the first time made him wish to gain strength through his weakness. He decided to follow the man, asking to become stronger by being taught by him in which the man replied with a rough disposition.

After his constant begging, the man had finally decided to teach him after saying that he would promise to become a marine and protect others should he gain strength. The man took a chance on him and that chance paid off. Deciding to train him at a marine base, Dark was placed through great pains in order to gain his strength and showed vast improvements due to both the desire to become stronger and to understand the man, it was also here that he would gain an interest in keeping his physical conditioning at peak.

They had their ups and downs in their relationship such as the man's alcoholic tendencies and Dark's open-mindedness, but overall they bonded with one another and Dark grew up becoming an official marine at age 13. He quickly learned about the world during his first year, that it was larger than he had seen and even gained an interest in reading books discovering more about martial abilities through literature.

Despite his parents deaths to pirates, he didn't consider all pirates evil because not all people were evil just like not all of them were good. His teacher taught differently and couldn't deny that he disliked pirates for his own purposes, but also considered that marines could also be "evil" due to greed and power. Which shifted their relationship even more considering how Dark thought of people as all having different interests and reasons for what they had done. So long as pirates didn't kill others, or do acts that could be considered "truly evil" he wouldn't count a pirate as a truly evil though admitted some could be very dangerous for the world as a whole.

Due to differences in opinions, though he was grateful and respectful of his master and "father figure" Dark slowly slipped away from his teachers grasp as he had nothing else to be taught to him and Dark wished to see the world himself. At age 18, Dark became a Lieutenant and in the same year, a Lieutenant Commander, due to his skills as a fighter (taking down entire fleets of pirates by himself). At age 20, he finally reached the rank of Captain after proving himself in an island's war against pirates being one of the prominent combatants in battle.

Despite their differences, his master was proud of the person he'd became, and in the marines because of his age, he's considered a prodigy of sorts thanks to his proficiency and fighting technique.

• ▶ Skilled Hand-to-Hand Combatant - Dark was trained by a kick-boxer, and knows how to fight very proficiently. He gained multiple skills in take-down (attacking the opponents legs or balance to make them fall) in order to make them incapable of moving or blocking with efficiency. His specialty is striking making him a "Striker" in terms of placement, as he is phenomenal at the use of footwork and an expert at striking precise points on the body. He also has gained skills that allow him to disarm an opponent, taking away their weapons so that he can make them fight his battle instead. In terms of "ability" he is considered a technical fighter, one who focuses on form and sharpness rather than raw speed and power to fight instead having a balanced mix of the two skills instead allowing him to fight well against either type but not overwhelm one or the other with their own abilities.
  
• ▶ Martial Knowledge - Being a battle fanatic, Dark has an exceptional knowledge of combat skills and reads for thorough knowledge of techniques. This goes for both weapon and hand-to-hand techniques and abilities. Because of this he has a great sense of understanding of how abilities work, meaning that once a technique is used, he can decipher it. Deciphering the opponents techniques means that he learns and understands it enough that he is more skillful at outmaneuvering or defending against it later. This also means he has the ability to use and adapt techniques to his arsenal by constantly practicing them in form making him something of a genius at understanding other martial arts techniques, but he can only decipher martial skills (hand-to-hand and melee combat weaponry).
• ▶ Combat Reflexes - Being a technical striking expert means one has to have the reflexes to understand what they are doing, however these reflexes were more of his raw talent which were trained with countless hours of effort. With his reflexes, it allows him to have an acute sense of timing, accuracy and precision as well as attack with lightning quick speed. This doesn't lend to his movement speed, as that is a different type of skill borne from training the legs to their utmost limits, but it does lend to his ability to track an opponents movements and react accordingly as well as see things normal people can't see. This is also what allows his analysis to be so incredible, as he can accurately sense the minute details in form.
