[attr="class","surprise"] SERENDIPITY After months of sailing around the Grand Line and surprisingly the Blues, Miguel was finally back in Marineford. He couldn’t say that he didn’t miss the hustle and bustle of the central headquarters as marines of all ages, backgrounds, and ranks hurried to and from the offices to deliver papers to their superiors or marched around in formation while on guard duty around the headquarters. The constant buzz in his head from all of the people around him was a litter uncomfortable as always, but he felt that it was worth it in order to be able to absorb the powerful martial spirit of justice that just seemed to ooze out of the place.
There was also something a little vindicating about having those same marines stop whatever they were doing to salute him before going on to do their business. Though no one but himself and the Gorosei to some extent knew about his former status as a captured slave and a cast-off nobody exiled from his home, even he couldn’t help but feel the ego boost from being able to climb up so high up the ranks so fast with only a little help from his supposed benefactors.
It was the little things like this that told him that he had chosen the right thing in agreeing to become the Gorosei’s angel, even if he had misgivings about it at least once a week because of the many things that he wasn’t allowed to indulge in. But sacrifices had to be made for the good of the world and her people, and if he had to pretend to be some sort of perfect creature from myth then he was more than willing to do it just so that what happened to him would never happen to anyone else again.
But internal drama aside, he was here to hand in his patrol reports and restock before sailing out again. He didn’t know about his fellow admirals but he hated being cooped up in Marineford and preferred roaming about and patrolling. A lot more got done that way.
Still, he couldn’t help but wonder if either one of his fellow admirals were here….

WORDS 522 TAGS Miguel Hidalgo NOTES sorry to keep you waiting | S lowly making her way across the sheer endless maze of corridors known as Marineford, a loud yawn forced its way through the barrier of the plum topped admiral's peachy lips. Izumi had once again burnt the midnight oil, taking care of her subjects' paperwork, which she had just delivered to the administration, hoping to accelerate the wheels of justice. The steadily increasing amount of pirate sightings and reports of their crimes were a huge problem that would definitely lead the world into chaos if it was ignored for too long. Instead of fighting different kinds of documents day in and day out, the young Kuja would have preferred to sail the seas in order to actively take care of the tidal wave of problems. But with the two other admirals gone, it was now her turn to stay behind and defend the headquarters in order to defend the same from a possible threat. Marineford was a buzzing hive that never seemed to sleep and just like this place, she herself also had reduced her sleep to the minimum she required. Fortunately for her, her Kuja genes prevented others from noticing the true extent of her short of sleep, as she hardly resembled a walking wreck. While seemingly physically fit, her mind, however, had suffered enough to mistake the sight of admiral Gintaka for an illusion, only realizing that he was actually real as the male didn't vanish with the blink of an eye. Focusing her remaining strength she increased the pace of her strides, causing the clicking noises emitted from her boots' heels every time they hit the ground to grow even louder. Sōbi, her crimson colored snake, kept slithering behind her, immediately adapting to the change of pace, following Izumi like a well trained dog. "Welcome back, Admiral Gintaka. How did the hunt go?" Raising her voice she kept approaching the young man, only to stop her motions a few meters away from him. Doing so the ruby shaded serpent immediately slid up her legs, wrapping itself around her frame without any intention of restricting her motions. Her voice carried a gentle tone that displayed her high spirits while it at the same time unintentionally adulated her feminine frame, which had already become the topic of conversation countless times. Admiral Gintaka, an ivory topped male whose deeds have proven his strength and determination to make the world a better place. A man Izumi truly respected despite disliking his naïvety, which at times surfaced, posing weakness capable of getting in his way as pirates usually didn't shrink from using whatever they could in order to indulge in their crimes. Aside from the facets he displayed during the meetings and the data depicted within his file, the female marine hardly knew anything about her peer, since the steadily increasing number of missions turned encounters like this into rare chance as they hardly got to speak to each other outside of official meetings. Grateful that she finally got a chance to talk to the tall male, her usually stern expression made way for a comfortable smile, which quickly spread across her delicate face. |

[attr="class","surprise"] SERENDIPITY Miguel had learned a lifetime ago that his Mantra was a blessing, not a curse. However, there were still some things that he found annoying about his gift, especially given how strong it was compared to the usual manifestations. Unlike most people, who mainly had trouble constantly maintaining Mantra, he had the opposite problem instead. His soul had become so accustomed to using Mantra that it actually took effort for him to turn it off. He used to be blind with it, but now he felt blind without even a toned down version of it.
Sometimes though, Miguel couldn’t help but wonder what his life would have been like if he had been born normal. No white hair, silver wings, or even his beloved Mantra. Would he still be up in his homeland, living the normal tribal life that he had only ever glimpsed? Or would he still have ended up here as an exile one way or another due to tribal politics and jealous hearts, only worse off as his gifts and experiences would not be there to help him survive in this harsh world that Blue Sea dwellers lived in.
But he wasn’t a Shandian of what-ifs or could-have-beens. Never was. He had always been a Shandian of the present. As his old master Genma once told him, there was no use in dwelling over what he didn’t have and that he should take advantage of what he did have. It was the only thing he can do… that anyone can do, really.
Still, Miguel did not need his Mantra to be able to sense the presence of his fellow admiral before she noticed him. He may pretend to be metaphorically made out of stone, but deep down even he could not deny that it was impossible to miss a gorgeous beauty like Admiral Shirosame. He didn’t know if it was her heritage or what, but there was just something about her that drew everyone’s eyes in. A fact that apparently did not change even when his Mantra told him that the woman was tired, which was to be expected.
Amusingly though, she seemed to be tired enough to not notice his towering presence amongst the other marines. He knew that feeling well, after all he knew that paperwork was one of an officer’s greatest foes. If they weren’t careful, it would suck all life and enthusiasm for justice out of them like a demented black hole. It took a truly dedicated and disciplined marine to be able to wade through that mess.
He was actually just going to leave her alone because she looked like she needed some rest. However, those plans were shot down when she called out to him, making him stop and look over at her.
”The usual, Admiral Shirosame.” Miguel replied in his usual monotone. ”I have caught a lot, but the seas are still teeming with a never-ending stream of criminals and lowlives.” He did not mention his new crew member since it did not feel pertinent to the question.
Golden eyes focused on her unerringly as he allowed himself to indulge in small talk. ”And how has the fort been while Admiral Kokuro and I were gone?”
And just like that, he was back to referring to Faust as Admiral Kokuro, at least around others. It was easy to slip back to old habits when the man himself was not around. Besides, he didn’t want to shock others by referring to people informally and supposedly breaking the façade he was wearing, now did he? Now was not the time or place to yank the chains of people around him for his own amusement.
