A soft sigh left the boy's lips as he glanced over the list in his hand. Mika had been sent into town to pick up lunch for a few Marines on the base who didn't feel that their rations were...'up to par'. Of course, he couldn't just tell them no. Even though they were making him do this with his own money, because supposedly they were broke. It wasn't true, but he wasn't willing to try and call them on their bluff. Better to just do this now and get it over with.
He glanced from side to side, inspecting the various shops lining the street. The paper in his hand simply stated that the Marines wanted three sandwiches. It wasn't very specific on what should be in the sandwiches, and he knew that there would probably be hell to pay if he got the wrong ones. Which would somehow be construed as his fault even though they never bothered to tell him what to get!
Mika thought it over for a bit before taking a seat on a nearby bench, folding his hands underneath his chin as he leaned forward; letting out a second, louder sigh. His Marine cap was pulled low over his eyes and he was wearing the standard uniform for Seamen, making him seem just about as generic as possible. It was too late to go back and ask what the other Marines wanted, but did he really want to risk getting the wrong food? After all, it wasn't like he had a ton of money to burn either...

V10-L3T pouted as she walked along the storefront. Although she had managed to convince the captain of her wifey to hire her as an on-ship shipwright, she hadn't been allowed to keep any on her weapons nor Fishbones unsupervised. Something about "not being certified" or something boring like that. In either case, she had looked over her dearest and discovered that while the marine captain kept his men in tip-top shape, the ship itself was about to fall apart.
Which brought her to the here and now.
She had been gathering supplies for what would undoubtedly be a months-long at-sea emergency maintenance when her stomach had announced its basic organic needs. Dipping into a shop she had haggled her way into five gourmet subs, each one with the basics of a good balanced meal: lettuce, tomatoes, and pieces of meat cooked to perfection before being placed within two freshly-baked buns. Even though it had cost quite the fair amount of coin, V10 didn't really spend any money on anything else, so she decided to indulge.
Spotting a bench with just one marine sitting on it, she hopped over and sat down, looking over at the marine before offering one of the sandwiches in his vague direction. Her other hand was busy unwrapping her own sandwich, letting the smell waft out and about.
"Hey, hey Marine-person...yah wanna sammich~? Bought more than I can chew, and my cap'in would skin me for wasting coin~."

in a dream i was a werewolf. It was a warm sunny day, and Kiri had just made it to a place known as Shells Town. She was making her way through the world, exploring everywhere she could. So far in her life, she’d not seen or gone through any real hardships. The word ‘naïve’ wasn’t even in her vocabulary. The stares she attracted went entirely unnoticed by her as she trotted through the town, only proving herself to be naïve to the ways of the world. Despite this she was happy and enjoying travelling.
The one downside to her journey was food. She didn’t start off with much money, and she hadn’t found any work to earn more; though she really hadn’t looked for jobs much since it hadn’t been that long since she’d left home. Along with that, her excitement at being out in the world instead of in her home village had her giddy and often made her forget meals. Her stomach quickly reminded her of the fact she needed to eat, an empty grumble coming from the general area between her four legs.
Luckily, her sharp sense of smell caught a whiff of something, something that smelled like a salad, but with fresh bread as well. It caused more growling and grumbling from her stomach, so the taur female followed the smell at a quick trot. Her route was a rather winding one, since the light breeze carried the smell this way and that; but in the end she made it to the source.
Unfortunately for her, the smell was coming from sandwiches in the hands of two humans, one male and one female. She kept her distance from the two, but the hungry look on her face as she stared at the sandwiches was obvious. | tagged: Mikado Sato V10-L3T words: 293 notes: pretty good length for my first time with this character |

Mika was so lost in his thoughts that he barely even registered the girl offering him a sandwich. It wasn't until he smelled it that he finally looked up from his lap, a thin line of drool running down the side of his mouth. He didn't have enough money to get sandwiches for the three Marines and get food for himself. He slowly raised his arms, cautiously taking the sandwich from the girl as if he thought she'd booby trapped it. It seemed too surreal to be reality. Why would someone give him something for free? There had to be a catch somewhere, right? He glanced around to either side as discreetly as possible... and noticed a horse standing nearby. No, not a horse... a girl? His eyes glazed over a little as his brain scanned for information. Ah... she must have been a Taurs. He smiled a little to himself as he thought of it- at least his knowledge wasn't completely wasted.
But at a second glance... he could plainly see that the girl's eyes were fixed on the sandwich that he was holding. He was starving, but... it wasn't as though he wasn't used to going without meals. Mika let his head dip a little as he mumbled up to the girl in front of him, "Heh... thank you, but..." The Marine slowly rose to his feet and wandered over to where the Taurs girl was standing, holding the sandwich up to her, "Here, you want this, right?" His smile was a little crooked, but it couldn't be helped. On one hand, his head was telling him that he was an idiot for giving away his food in the state he was in, but on the other hand... he never really expected to eat lunch today anyway. So really, he hadn't actually lost anything of consequence.

V10 smiled as the Marine, who turned out to be a pretty young kid, reached out for the offered sandwich. Letting him take it, she tilted her head in confusion as the kid looked around, somewhere between guiltily and suspiciously before getting up. Watching the kid go to a horse-deer-person-lady that she hadn't noticed nearby and offer her the sandwich, V10 decided to do the nice thing and open up the bag with the remaining three wrapped-up sandwiches. Gesturing to both the horse-deer-lady-person and the Marine, she simply commented. "Hey, no problem here, I've still got three more where they came from! As long as you keep me company while you can I don't mind...not used to only hearing my own voice all the time~!" Leaning down to take a bite out of her sammich of yum-ness, the bluenette eyed them both, her fingers drumming a random little rhythm as she held onto her share of the food. Her eyes meanwhile drifted over to the horse-lady-person, eyes full of curiosity as to just what she was. She had been getting a bit twitchy at having only her own voice in her head for so long, so the more people she could get talking with, the better in her slightly-warped mind. Gesturing again she insisted, her desperation for company just barely showing in her insistence
"Common, no need to be shy! Sit and chat awhile~."

in a dream i was a werewolf. The rather sudden offer of the sandwich from the male threw Kiri off guard. She wasn’t really sure how to react. It was true she was hungry, but it seemed like that was his meal. Rather nervously, she raised her hands up a bit, trying to turn him down kindly. Her voice was soft, and a little quiet, “Ah!... Thank you…b-but I wouldn’t-”
Her attempt at polite rejection was interrupted by the female speaking up suddenly. It seemed she had plenty more sandwiches to share. Still feeling a bit out of place, the Taur’s voice came out a bit quieter than usual. “Oh…well, so long as I’m not imposing…” She accepted the food with a quiet word of thanks to the male before walking over closer to the bench. Kiri was generally unfamiliar with the social nuances of all these unfamiliar islands, but one thing that seemed to be universal was that if others were sitting down to eat, it was polite to do so as well. Following this generalization, she plopped herself down next to the bench the two humans occupied, though to get more at their level she had to lay down. It wasn’t so odd to her though; in her village it was customary for Taurs to lie down to eat as sitting their rumps down was a rather awkward position.
Once situated with her rather small hooves tucked under her, she took a big bite of the sandwich, eager to quiet her stomach before beginning any conversation. It was rather delicious, though she wasn’t sure what kind of meat was in it. It definitely wasn’t any kind of fish she’d ever had. She’d have to ask some point during the conversation, though she wasn’t sure what to say. Just like anywhere, she was sure there were some taboo topics in this area, and she had yet to learn what they were. Kiri definitely didn’t want to offend anyone this early into meeting them. | tagged: Mikado Sato V10-L3T words: 327 notes: Still working on figuring out how to best RP Kiri, so apologies if my writing style for her tends to randomly change or ramble |

The Marine offered a little bow when the Taur girl took the sandwich before returning to where he'd been seated before. But this time, he dismissed the other girl's offer of yet more sandwiches. It would be wrong for him to eat before he finished his task. He could simply take all three back of the other Marines, but that would be an excessive burden to place on the girl for no good reason, even if she did insist that it was no trouble.
Instead, Mika folded his hands in his lapped and looked down at them, letting his head tilt down just enough to cover his eyes in the shadow of the Marine cap's lip. The only distinguishing feature he had at the moment were a few stray, black strands of the boy's bangs poking down from underneath the hat. "Oh, I apologize for my rudeness earlier; I forgot to introduce myself... I'm Landman Sato... Second Class." Although he didn't take the time to explain it due to embarrassment, a Landman was a Seaman who, as the name might imply, lacked at least two years of experience on a boat out at sea. In short, he was the second lowest rank in the entire Navy. A far cry from the Admirals who patrolled the Grand Line.
Instead of letting either girl dwell on that for too long and risk them asking any questions that he wasn't skillful enough to deflect, he decided to change the subject. Mika turned his head towards the girl laying beside the bench with closed eyes and a slight smile on his face, "I've never seen an actual Taur before, only illustrations in textbooks." He shuddered for a moment as he recalled his time at the Officer Academy, but quickly put the thought behind him, "You're pretty far away from home, aren't you? What are you doing in Shells Town?" He kept his tone upbeat to try and make it clear that he wasn't interrogating her in his official capacity as a Marine or anything of the sort, just asking an innocent question. It was really the only thing to call attention to, because commenting on the human girl's pale color was probably many times ruder than forgetting to introduce himself earlier. Would probably end with him getting dropkicked. ...again.

Shrugging as the additional sandwiches were declined, Violet resumed her gazing of the horse-lady-person, watching her sit down and start biting on the sandwich. She kept her own mouth busy with her own yummyness while everyone settled down, turning slightly to peer at the seaman-landman-kid as he introduced himself. Before she could ask exactly what a 'landman' was though, he had leaned over and commented on her race. Looking over at the horse-lady, she took another bite, and then asked, with all the grace and delicacy of a brick falling through a glass factory.
"Can I touch your fur~?"
She took a bite of her sandwich right after asking, her eyes looking down at the horse-taur-lady's lower body, and specifically the soft-looking fur. It didn't even cross her mind that she might come across as rude or anything of the kind. That sort of thing just didn't even register in the insane girl's mind, along with a sense of fashion, and on the occasiona sense of morals. For the moment she just looked from the taur's back to her face, waiting an answer.

in a dream i was a werewolf. Swallowing the initial and fairly large bite of sandwich, Kiri looked to the male as he spoke. His name seemed a bit odd to the Taur; she had no concept of the Marines and their ranking system. With her head tilted slightly to the side, she peered at him before smiling. As she opened her mouth to introduce herself in return, the female suddenly dropped a rather odd question on her.
“Can I touch your fur~?”
The Taur looked rather uncomfortably shocked by the question. Granted it wasn’t the first time she’d been asked basically the same thing, though mostly by children of her own race, and always with more grace than this human had just asked. Knowing full well she would run into more situations that clashed with how she was raised out in the world, she didn’t let herself be offended by the request. Instead she tried to put the smile back on her face, though her expression still looked rather uncomfortable.
“Uh…sure…?” her tone didn’t sound so sure about a stranger touching her to intentionally feel her, “My name’s Kiri by the way.” Her introduction was addressed to the both of them, though a bit more so to the one who called himself Sato as he’d introduced himself first.
Now entirely addressing the marine, Kiri gave a small nod to confirm she was indeed far from home, “Yes I am quite a ways from my home village now. I’m just exploring the world as much as I can, and this town was the one the merchant ship I got a ride on was headed for so…here I am.” She gave a bright grin with the end of her statement; being this far from home made her very proud of herself. | tagged: Mikado Sato V10-L3T words: 293 notes: Ok, got this edited |

The young Marine felt his cheeks redden a little at the blue-haired girl's comment, mostly from embarrassment. That would be considered rude, wouldn't it? But the earnestness with which she asked... he doubted that the Taur would have it in her to deny the request. He considered attempting to dissuade the girl from going through with her plan, but... being that confrontational about something so minor in the grand scheme of things just wasn't in him.
Instead, he focused on what the Taur- rather, what Kiri was saying. He nodded slowly in understanding, offering her a sheepish smile, "Ah... well, I hope you enjoy your time here in any case." The Marine in him wanted him to press her for information about the ship she claimed to arrive here on to make sure that she wasn't a stowaway, but... Mikado leaned back, looking up at the sky through half-closed eyes, intentionally keeping his eyes off the pair of girls while the petting and whatever else was going on, knowing that the sight would probably make him feel awkward and uncomfortable. It was the same with petting Beastfolk to him... even if they did seem to like it, it was kind of weird, right?
He hesitated for a moment, wondering if he should even bother mentioning it... but eventually decided that it was important for Kiri to know what she could be getting herself into, "You might already know this, but... there are a lot of pirates prowling about. This is only the East Blue, so most of them are pretty harmless... but it might still be dangerous out there." He wasn't really sure why he mentioned it. It wasn't like he could offer her protection or anything. Maybe she was a skilled fighter and he was insulting her by insinuating that the brigards of the East Blue could pose a threat to her. Why did he open his big mouth at all...?

With permission given, Vi happily began petting the taur-lady-person with one hand while continuing to nom with her other hand.Munching happily the teen psycho petted the girl, her hand seeming to just know where to land for best pettings. As she listened to them both introduce themselves, she realized she didn't have a name to give them. Thinking quickly she took something from the list of names the marines often called her.
"The marines on my ship just call me 'Vee-Ten,' so I guess it should be okay for you to just call me Vee or something like that."Remembering the 'Landy-man-person had mentioned something about pirates she looked over to him and added. "Yeah, there's been alot of pirate-fun-people about lately, altho they don't seem very smart...they tried to attack my ship with a couple of cogs, and the wind was against them too! Imagine how that went~!"
Miming a ship sinking, V10 giggled at the memory, that situation having allowed the captain to actually let her play with one of the cannons as the had effectively shot fish in a barrel. Having alot of fun now, V10 suddenly leaned over and hugged the furry portion of the taur-fuzzy-person, rubbing her face against the soft fur and letting out a delighted squeal before releasing her and offering another sammich, saying something along the lines of 'thanks for the hugs~!' before offering the thing as a token of thanks.
