What is a System?
Without getting too much into the history, a "System" is an ancient, biomechanical unit installed into a living intelligent being that grants them abilities they otherwise would not have been able to attain otherwise. These abilities and such are often otherworldly and, similar to devil fruits, they often contain unusual or unique traits. Unlike devil fruits, which have a universal weakness to sea water, each system usually has its own unique weakness depending on its abilities. Sometimes these can be severe weaknesses, other times they may not be. All systems, perhaps oddly enough, have a weakness to the rare material known as "Darksteel".
How does one get a system? What are its limitations?
Systems are attained in the same way as devil fruits: you can either apply for them with characters or find/buy them in the same way. An important note, however, is that systems are incompatible with beings that already possess devil fruits, and as such one cannot have a devil fruit and a system on the same character.
In terms of overall power, systems are much more specific in their functions and rules, often having sometimes interesting or bizzare requirements to utilize their abilities. In exchange, however, these abilities are often somewhat more powerful or have greater reach then that of devil fruit in exchange for their limitations. Each system also is gifted with an "Avatar": a powerful psychokinetic construct whose function varies. These avatars can have a wide variety of personalities and, more importantly, can (possibly) affect the system owner's personality with various "Quirks" as the System is kept in their body for long periods of time. However, system users cannot start with their avatar, and must "Unlock" it through the shop and posting.
The physical abilities of system avatar's are usually described via letter grading (D to S) under the following categories:
Strength: The system Avatar's overall physical strength when deployed.
Durability: The system's overall durability against all forms of damage as an avatar. If a system or its avatar takes too much damage, it "Breaks" leaving the user temporarily unable to use it until it regenerates.
Speed: The system avatar's overall speed and reaction capabilities.
Range: how far the system's abilities and its avatar can act beyond the immediate vicinity of its user.
Sentience: How intelligent or autonimous the stand is beyond its users own mental abilities. This is a double-edged sword, for only a strong willed person can control a system of extremely high sentience, otherwise they risk mental side effects of using the system.
Difficulty/Demands: The knowledge and skill required to effectively used the system. The higher the grade, the more difficult it is to utilize and the longer it will take to be able to use the system's full potential.
(note: this does not indicate the overall strength of a system versus other systems or abilities, only its physical capacity. Also, Abilities can make an otherwise physically weak system much more powerful.)
Basic overview of known Systems (AKA Sample Systems:
Name: Kronos
Basic description: An extremely advanced yet powerful system with a very high learning curve, amazing physical attributes and extraordinarily powerful and useful abilities.
Abilities/strengths: extremely high overall physical abilities, Avatar possesses excellent skill with sword or hand-to-hand, Can stop time and manipulate space via a "fold" technique
Weaknesses: Short overall range of deployment (10ft), High degree of stamina required for time stop, high degree of understanding required for folding technique.
Personality: Very noble, quiet. Somewhat stubborn and a prude.
Possibly Causes User Quirks:
+Causes like of fancy clocks, very accurate time awareness and good sense of direction.
-Causes dislike of chance-based things and "Randomness". Causes one to become secretive.
User: Hector C. Vinland.
Name: Colt
Basic Description: A system for gun nuts. System is designed to transform into advanced firearms or other such devices on the fly and in a pinch can use user's stamina to generate ammo. Also grants user extremely good understanding of "kinetic vectors" enabling useful trick shots.
Abilities/strengths: Gives user extremely good understanding of firearms and kinetic vectors, enabling advanced aiming with ease. Avatar can take shape of firearms. Avatar can transform users stamina into ammo. Avatar has extremely good range, accuracy and/or damage depending on chosen gun form. Trick shots allow user to perform useful gun feats in combat for much greater flexibility of gun use.
Weaknesses: Decreases user's affinity/skill with blades. Avatar can only take shape of six different devices of users choice in combat, and must be reprogrammed outside combat. Outside of gun forms, Avatar lacks real physical abilities or presence, and is not particularly good at close-range combat.
Avatar Personality: Very precise, loud and boisterous.
Possibly Causes User Quirks:
+Causes like of Gunpowder(and its smell), explosives, loud noises and exclamation points!!
-Causes dislike of knives and pointy melee objects, missing of any kind, excessive quiet and question marks.
