There was something to be said about the life of a fugitive wanderer. Sure, the pay was terrible (if there was any at all), the food sucked most of the time if he didn’t hunt for it himself, the health and security benefits –whatever those silly things are- were nonexistent, and annoyingly persistent company was just terrible, but the freedom of being able to move from place to place without the scrutiny or judgment of anymore was grand. For someone who had been forced to live in one island for most of his life, it was great compared to being cooped up at home with all of their rules and traditions.
Sometimes though, he got homesick. Sometimes, he missed everyone back home, even the overly-judgmental jerks that forced him out. But he couldn’t go home. Not anymore. Not after what he did.
He shook his head and pulled the hood of his cloak further to obscure his face even more. He had to remember to keep his head down, shoulders back, and senses alert. This was just like the jungle, only with much less green. He can’t afford to mourn over what he had done. He can only wander around and explore… whatever this empty-looking place was.
The price he paid for freedom indeed.
