Devil Fruits are said to be the fruits created by the Devil of the Sea, and that the secret to their power is hidden in the Grand Line. Because encounters with them are normally rare (particularly outside the Grand Line), a number of rumors about them have risen, making it difficult to tell whether some things are fact or fiction. The average person knows nothing or very little about what they are or what they do. Because of their power, if sold they can expect to fetch enormous prices, and Devil Fruit users themselves are sold at similar prices as slaves.
[break][break]
The most common and varied class of Devil Fruits, Paramecia alter the bodies of those who eat them, creating one of a myriad of powers, many of which can grow more powerful along with their user. Some of these can even inherently affect the area around the user by merit of their particulars, though these tend to be rarer. Even rarer among these are the Paramecias that manage to function in a manner akin to Logia, such as the Doku Doku no Mi producing unlimited poisons, or the Mochi Mochi no Mi acting almost identically to a Paramecia, though with an upward limit. However, as the most evident powers, users of Paramecia fruits are often treated as freaks and circus shows.
[break][break]
A class of Devil Fruit that draws upon the power of the beasts, allowing those who eat them to take the form of an animal, or to merge that form with their own. Because of the nature of these fruits, their power is based on the physical strength of the user, multiplying it based on the animal base of the fruit. In addition to the standard variety, there are two incredibly rare varieties, Mythical Zoans, which draw upon the power of mythical beasts, and Ancient Zoans, which draw upon the power of ancient, extinct beasts.
[break][break]
The rarest full class of Devil Fruit, which allows the user to create, control, and even become the elements of nature. Users of Logia can appear to be invincible, but this often leads to the user becoming foolishly overconfident, and has been the bane of many a Logia user. In addition, Logia powers tend to be someone narrow, focusing entirely on the use of a single element, and require much more creativity to overcome skilled opponents. Finally, Logia tend to have the most obvious weaknesses, and even one attack can often give away exactly what the fruit can do.

[attr="class","temTitle"]Awakened Devil Fruits
[attr="class","temWrap"]
Awakened Devil Fruits, a curious power acquired only by a few people, said to be the "true" power of the Devil Fruits. This power alters the very nature of the Devil Fruit, often making it seem like a wholly different fruit, or even a different class.
[break][break]
Awakening these fruits gives the user the ability to extend the effects of their Devil Fruit to the environment around them, such as Doflamingo's turning buildings into strings. For some Paramecia, awakening them with have a different reaction, causing them to gain a new power directly related to their standard, for instance, a heat-manipulating Paramecia could drain heat away, therefore "producing cold". Because of the great variety of Paramecia abilities, these will be scrutinized a bit heavily, to make sure they are within the rules.
[break][break]
Awakening these fruits gives the user the ability to control their transformation on a greater level, giving more variable forms than the standard natural/animal/hybrid forms. A good example from canon is Chopper's various "Points". It's rumored that there are medicines that can induce this effect temporarily, even for unawakened users, but they are very dangerous, and have significant side effects.
[break][break]
Awakening these fruits gives the user the ability to control outside sources of their element, as well as certain things related to their element. For example, the Hie Hie can freeze water and then control the resulting ice. As Logia are already quite powerful, if natively limited, and these abilities can be rather strong in addition, these will also be scrutinized rather heavily.
[break][break]
As for acquiring this incredible power, it's quite simple, really. For one, there are seven positions permitted to have an Awakened Devil Fruit for no additional work. These are the four Yonkou, and the three Admirals. Otherwise, the ability to Awaken your Devil Fruit is purchased much like any other ability. However, there is a hitch. As Awakening is meant to be incredibly powerful and decently rare, no player is permitted to have more than two Awakened Devil Fruits, and should a character with one perish, their player must reapply for a new one, should they desire a new one, and will be held under higher scrutiny. In addition, to begin with, any Awakened Devil Fruit is limited to starting with only four Awakened abilities, regardless of the method of acquisition, and more can be purchased as normal, up to a total of no more than ten Awakened abilities.
