[attr="class","surprise"] SERENDIPITY After three full hours of searching every nook and cranny on the small island, Miguel could only come to one conclusion. The scouting squad and all of those marooned merchants apparently were exaggerating their accounts of their being a demon nest on the island. All they found were the normal flora and fauna, with no traces of anyone –well, any other demon or sentient creature- other than the demon child they had captured ever being here for the past few months.
It was with a decidedly sour mood that Miguel returned with his two marines in tow. Once he had returned onto the ship, he had dismissed the two marines he brought along with him and made a beeline for the officer he had left in charge of the ship while he was gone.
”Lieutenant Johnson.” Miguel nodded at the young man as he saluted. ”I presume that there were no problems while I was gone?”
“Yes, Admiral.” The officer replied promptly.
”Where exactly did you place the prisoner, Lieutenant?” He continued, his golden eyes peering into the younger man like the hawk he was nicknamed after.
“Cell number 6, sir.” Johnson replied. “We made sure to take every precaution in keeping him restrained, sir.”
”Good.” Miguel’s eyes looked around for a moment before settling on the marine again. ”Continue overseeing the ship. I will be interrogating the prisoner once he is awake.”
“Yes sir!” Miguel stared at the marine for a moment more before he gave him a pleased nod. Then he turned around and left for the brig underneath the ship.
It wasn’t until the admiral was out of sight that the lieutenant allowed himself to relax from his salute, breathing a sigh of relief. As much as he admired his admiral, he couldn’t help but be nervous still when he was being addressed. There was just something so weird about being addressed by a real live angel. He felt like he was somehow being judged whenever the guy looked at him even though he knew that it wasn’t the case.
Angels.
Once Miguel had taken his justice coat back from his subordinates and arrived in front of prison cell number six in the brig, there was a question already on his tongue.
”Gentlemen. Is the prisoner awake?” He was answered with curt nods from the guards stationed in front of the cell.
Miguel’s expression became a little bit more stern. ”Make sure that no one else enters the cell unless it is of dire importance. I will be interrogating the child.”
“Sir yes sir!” The two guards chorused, saluting him crisply before returning to their normal positions at the side of the door.
With that said, Miguel opened the door into the cell and stepped inside. Once he was in, he made sure to close the door firmly behind him before turning to face the white haired demon in chains. He had to blink once in order to suppress the image of another white haired child in chains before he could find the voice to address the child.
”So you are awake.” Miguel approached the demon, using the fact that he towered over the child to make him seem more intimidating even with his wings covered by his justice coat again. ”I have a couple of questions for you, child.”

325 "I can't see my end...but I can see yours." With little else he could do, Akuma sat, waiting in silence and oddly enjoying his imprisonment. His blood lust was raging within, wanting to break out and set loose on those he could hear talking outside his cell. The real Akuma, the one the world now saw however, was loving the first moments of sanity he had experienced in months. He felt calm and at ease, like he was finally in control once more.
As the door swung open, his eyes darted up. Still covered in blood but now in the light of a lit room, the blood covering his body made him look like a child who had just gotten into some horrific accident, like falling into the opened corpse of a deer or something of the like. He didn't seem malicious or even like he wished to harm the man who had captured him. At worst, he seemed annoyed, perhaps disappointed. "Guess I shoulda expected this...heh...someone bigger would have come to the island eventually..." His voice was far calmer than back on the island too, he was almost a different person. Upon hearing the man say he had questions, Akuma's curiosity peaked, wondering what on earth he would want to ask. Surely it would be smart to just put him down now...still, if he was to live, he may as well not make an unnecessary struggle. It was only logical to comply in his current situation.
"Ask away...but..." He lifted his head, looking the towering man in the eye, not seeming to show an ounce of fear, but at least showing respect as he asked with a calm tone that made his request sound like it could be denied easily. "Please tell me if you kept my blade...I will answer whatever you wish, I just wish to know my blade is kept safe." CODED BY SYLVIE

[attr="class","surprise"] SERENDIPITY Miguel almost blinked when he noticed something peculiar. Instead of the hissing, snarling, or cursing that he had come to expect from his prisoners, the child was outwardly calm. If he wasn’t mistaken, it might have said that he was almost at peace if it weren’t for the dark, lustful feelings that he stood out like a beacon to his trained senses. It seemed that the longer that he was in the presence of this child, the more questions that popped up.
Instead of openly commenting though, he kept quiet and let the boy say his piece after he made his statement. It was a good thing too, as it allowed him to learn some new things about the boy. Firstly, that he was attached to the blade that was being kept in the confiscated weapons section of the ship –he had asked about it as standard procedure when he had gotten his coat from the marines who had it- and secondly that he seemed much calmer after the beating. Maybe demons responded best to the old-fashioned methods of discipline? That was an intriguing thought and one that he would have to bring up with the priest later if he had the time and the inclination to do so.
However, the thought of the prisoner actually having the audacity to ask –the query did not have enough heat to be called a demand- before answering his question amused him. If he had been one of the more… unscrupulous marines, then he wouldn’t have entertained the question and would have been offended instead.
But Miguel wasn’t that kind of marine.
”Don’t worry, child.” Golden eyes focused on him with a hint of curiosity. ”Your blade is with us, safe and sound.”
He paused for a moment before continuing, deciding to go with a good cop routine first since the demon didn’t seem to be as unpleasant as he was earlier. After all, cooperative prisoners were much easier to extract information from so it was best to break the ice. ”If I may ask, why are you so attached to that Odachi? Is it anything special?”

443 "I can't see my end...but I can see yours." Akuma seemed to suddenly be at ease now that he knew his blade was safe. His shoulders seemed to just drop, like a weight had been lifted and he could truly be at ease now. He did give a slight chuckle however, whether out of relief, or amusement at the man standing above him. He had no idea how marines were normally thought of, but if they were all as reasonable as this man, he wondered why their were pirates.
"You have my thanks...both for keeping it, and for answering me." His voice was still calm, surprisingly so for someone who was chained up like a rabid animal. In fact it was surprising he was not acting like a rabid animal to begin with. "I will answer whatever you wish." His head lowered in respect and the still present sense of relief. Even if it was not in his possession, he knew where his blade was somewhere close.
The first question did surprise him a little, but given his own it was only natural to follow with it he supposed. It was never really clear to him why he kept it...in the madness of the passing months it had always been confusing to him. Half of him desired it for one reason, the other half desired it for another. Rather than simply debate this in his head however, he tried to make a clear answer of it in words.
"I...truly could not tell you for certain...in my...state. The way you saw me on the island? The blade was precious as it was a way to kill and tear efficiently. It may be the reason I still desire it. Without it I would have to dig in with my teeth, far less efficient..." He lowered his head further, his white bloody bangs covering his face from view, a chuckle escaping him as if he was laughing at himself, treating the idea of killing something like a problem he had to solve as easily as he could. "But now...It is the only reminder I have of my home. When I fled I kept nothing but that blade, a gift from my mother, supposedly left by my father...though I believe she told me that so I would think he cared about his bastard son." His voice showed no emotion. In truth he never cared that he would never meet his father, truly. He just recalled the smile his mother gave him upon passing on the blade, and what he assumed she must be feeling. CODED BY SYLVIE

[attr="class","surprise"] SERENDIPITY Compliant already? Either Miguel was getting much better at this than he anticipated or the boy was so attached to the blade that just hearing it was safe was enough to reassure him. Considering what he was sensing from the boy, it was probably the latter.
Of course, given that Miguel had already deduced that the boy was attached to the sword his next revelation was far less surprising. Talk of better flesh-rending abilities aside, he had already figured out that there was some sort of sentimental value with the sword so there was probably some sort of touchy-feely story attached to it, which the boy just confirmed.
What was more interesting was the strange conflicting emotions he was getting from the boy as he stated those facts. He looked completely emotionless aside from the laughter at first glance, but his Mantra told him a different story. There was a mix of emotions there, though the fondness for his mother ran the strongest. Not a surprise considering what the boy said about his father.
However, Miguel didn’t have the time or the inclination to ask the boy about his family life. There were far more pressing questions for him to ask in its stead. And the boy had given him the perfect opening for it.
”Fled?” Miguel’s gaze on the young demon intensified. ”What exactly were you fleeing from, child?”
He had a suspicion that he knew what it might be given the boy’s behaviour a couple of hours ago during his first encounter, but it was best to hear it from the person himself. Who knows? It might be something else that might pose a danger to the nearby islands, in which case he would have to dispatch someone to hunt the threat down or do it himself.

259 "I can't see my end...but I can see yours." Glancing up from the chains on his wrist, Akuma couldn't be sure, but something told him that Miguel was expecting his answers by now, but honestly, he found it almost laughable that this next question did not answer itself. What was he fleeing from?
"People."
It was a simple enough answer. Akuma kept his eyes locked on the man above him, wondering if this was truly the answer he was expecting, or even if it was the answer he wanted, a slight grin forming on his fangs. He found no real humor in all of this, but looking smug about how simple his answer was seemed just about right. "Tell me sir...while you were on the island, did I kill a single one of your men? Hell, did I not give you several warnings before trying to kill you?"
He lowered his head once more, any false humor draining from his voice. "I have no control over my bloodlust...if I had stayed when your soldier began to bleed I would not have been sated until I had killed them all in front of you. I fled not because of a storm or sea monster, but because I am the beast that needed to be kept away."
He looked up once more, his red eyes gazing up at Miguel as if judging him and all those whoever stepped onto his island at once. "Does that satisfy the curiosity of you and those humans?" CODED BY SYLVIE

[attr="class","surprise"] SERENDIPITY People.
A demon fleeing from people.
The utter ridiculousness made him want to chuckle. If it weren’t for the fact that his Mantra was never wrong and that his people-reading skills were almost as reliable, he would’ve thought that the boy was lying to him. Who in the world had heard of a demon running from people? That was just silly!
His thoughts became much somber when he remembered some of his crew’s backstories before he had taken them in. Specifically, those of the half-breeds. Running away or exiled because they were rejected by the people for their looks or their behaviour, they were very common out on the seas. Usually as pirates.
Perhaps a demon running away from people wasn’t so farfetched after all.
Miguel pushed away those thoughts and decided to process the rest of things that he had heard from the boy while he was thinking. He had to admit that the boy had a point, but demons had no official claim on the islands and was therefore terrorizing the citizens of the World Government in his actions. In fact, he could add several counts of assault not just on citizens but on officers as well, along with obstruction of justice, attempted murder… the laundry list goes on and on.
Still, the fact that the boy couldn’t control his bloodlust struck him. It reminded him of another place and another time, with another boy held at the mercy of a superior force because he couldn’t control his power….
Miguel was silent for a few moments before he allowed himself to speak. ”In order… yes I have, yes I noticed but terrorizing citizens of the World Government and assaulting them just to get them out of property you do not officially own are still considered crimes, and….”
He paused for a moment before continuing. ”No.”
”You have committed many crimes.” Miguel’s voice sounded completely grave as he walked closer to the prisoner and kneeled down to look at him in the eye. ”Tell me, if you had the choice would you atone for your crimes? To be able to stymie the source of them and redeem yourself?”

000 "I can't see my end...but I can see yours." Akuma sat quietly and listened to Miguel answer his questions calmly and in order. Simple, bland answers until the rule book felt like it was quoted at him. Of course, rule breaking would not go unchecked even if it was because Akuma tried to protect people from himself...what seemed to ruffle him the most though was when he was given a chance. Where most people would see hope, he showed anger and fury, though inside he felt a chilling sensation he had only learned to call "fear".
"NO!" His hands slammed down on the wooden floor beneath him, his hands shaking supposedly in anger as he gritted his teeth, forming strong fists in his shackles as if he was trying to escape for in an instant, eventually just coming to stand and glare up at the much taller Miguel.
"You don't understand! It is not that I fear humans but what I may do to them..." His head lowered once more, as if he was giving up on himself, something he had done time and time again on the island whenever he believed he had control. "If you give me your so called "chance"? You will unleash a monster onto your world of peace and order...at the first drop of blood I will lose myself to the lust..."
His eyes gazed up once more, as if challenging the angel. "If you think it can be controlled then give me your chance...but if I assure you, what happened on my home island will only happen again in time."
Akuma stood before the much taller man, raising his wrists and holding out his shackles, not expecting to be released, but just as a physical display of what Miguel was essentially doing. Under watch or not, he was unchaining the beast with this chance. He was trying to show that it was wrong, that he's just do what he feared and hurt more people again...but though even he couldn't see it, perhaps Miguel's mantra would reveal the small hope he had of becoming something more than a demon, controlling his lust, the glorious climaxe as to why he had seperated himself from humanity in the hopes of finding control.
Perhaps if Miguel truly gave him the chance, he would not regret it. This however, was for the angel to decide. CODED BY SYLVIE

[attr="class","surprise"] SERENDIPITY Miguel resisted the urge to raise an eyebrow. The boy could sure work his way up into an angsty rant. It seems that across the species, puberty seems to have some of the same effects no matter where you turned. After all, what else would explain this outburst after he had given him a chance at redemption? Kids these days.
The tall angel watched as the boy finally wound down and showed him his chained wrists while assuring him that he would probably regress back to his bloodlusting tendencies if he went through with this. If the boy had been truly hopeless and depressed about his situation, then he would have done the merciful thing and slew him right where he stood. After all, there was no point in letting something that had no will to live continue on. It would be punishing them even more, and he wasn’t the sadistic or the careless type. No one would blame him for killing a demon after all; they would even congratulate him for it and tell him that he was doing his duty as an angel.
But he wasn’t entirely resigned. There was a spark –small as it was- that he could only describe as hope. And that little spark was enough to make Miguel come to a decision.
”What you speak of is true.” Miguel began as he stood up to his full height. ”You could easily become a much bigger threat if I let you free.”
”But there is one thing that you have to learn about this world, child.” His gold eyes focused on him, as if judging him. ”It is that nothing is impossible. Just look at us, for example.”
He paused for a moment. ”There is no fate, destiny, or God dictating our actions.” That sounded particularly blasphemous for an angel to utter, but the boy needed to hear it. ”The only one who dictates your life is yourself. With enough effort and discipline, anything is possible.”
”You think that you are evil because of genetics? I’ve seen mere men far more evil and depraved than you just because they wanted to become that way.” Miguel took out the key and opened the locks to the boy’s wrist restraints. It was more symbolic than anything. ”So what’s to say you can’t master your bloodlust as well?”
His next words carried the faintest hint of some forlorn expression. ”After all, everyone deserves a second chance. Even demons.”

236 "I can't see my end...but I can see yours." The demon listened quietly to the words of the man before him. He wanted this chance no matter how much he also tried to deny it for himself. The thought of controlling his bloodlust had been a dream he had always wanted to accomplish since the day he forced himself to flee his home...would it really be so impossible? Could he not at least give it one final try?
"...I..." His voice wavered for a moment, but as if like flicking a switch, his emotionless shell returned, standing tall, or rather, as tall as he could compared to Miguel, looking to him with respect as her lowered his shackles. "I would like to take this chance...under one condition." His body seemed to relax, and much like he had asked about the blade, his tone indicated he could be denied his request and still comply. "I remain under your watch. I do not believe many people, even those as powerful as you, would want me around, let alone take the time to teach me any control." He looked up to Miguel now with no emotion. What was said was said, and if there was the smallest chance this would all work out for the better, then perhaps he would not regret his decision to move on from his island cage. CODED BY SYLVIE

[attr="class","surprise"] SERENDIPITY Even if they had just met, Miguel had seen enough from the young boy to know that the wavering of his voice wasn’t normal. Well, he’d only ever seen calm and furious, so he supposed that the display of any other emotion from the child would be considered strange.
But once again, he had to suppress yet another amused expression at the child’s expense. If he didn’t know better, he might’ve expected the child to be goading out an exasperated response from him. But it took a lot to make him bite someone’s bait, and this child didn’t know the buttons to push for those. All who do were far, far away from these blue seas… and he wasn’t even sure if the same buttons worked anymore. He had changed a lot since then. It had been over a decade since he’d been back above, let alone be in Birka.
”For the first few months. Or a year if necessary.” Miguel replied after a moment. ”Sooner or later though, you will have to reintegrate into society again. What is the point of learning control if you are never going to test it?”
Daring words for an angel? Maybe. But they were the truth all the same.
”And who knows? You might be surprised at the type of people out here. Not everything is predictable.” No matter how much he wished they were. But that was life.

000 "I can't see my end...but I can see yours." With his heart now at ease, stone began to cover it once more. The raging emotions he had felt on the island and these past few moments seemed to be all settled, and with them left any visible trace of emotions on the outside. A slight chuckle at the angel's words but little else. He sat once more, unsure if he was to be unchained now or later, and simply deciding to be comfy until either choice was mad. "I don't think even the most surprising of people will accept a demon soaked in blood, but I appreciate your confidence."
Another grin, formed only as he deemed it the right response, formed on his lips, fangs bared in a childish manor as he was pleased that he would be under Miguel's watch for sometime. It would be good...easing, if you will, to know that if he were to get out of line he had a man who could subdue, and possibly kill him, watching over his shoulder. [attr="class","surprise"] SERENDIPITY So the child still refused to believe. Not that Miguel expected anything less from a demon child. And there was only one reply for such things.
”We’ll see, child.” After all, as the humans say, seeing is believing. He’ll let the boy experience that for himself.
Then he simply watched as the child smiled, making him look less demonic and more childlike as he thanked him. He felt a warm twinge at those words but he quickly squashed it down, mostly because it felt strange contrasting the cool demeanor he was always supposed to wear.
”You’re welcome.” He then snapped his fingers, causing the two marines stationed at the door to quickly enter the room.
“Yes sir?” The two marines asked.
”Remove the boy’s restraints.” Miguel ordered, ignoring the incredulous twitch that appeared on their faces for a second. ”His penance is to become part of our crew.”
They looked hesitant for a second, but since this was the admiral they knew better than to question his orders. “Yes sir!” So with utter obedience, the two marines removed all of the chains and restraints on the demon child, as well as the charms attached to them. Then they quickly looked at their admiral, waiting for further orders.
”Escort the boy to his new quarters and give him some actual clothes to wear. There should be some that would accommodate his size and wings. You should be able to control yourself enough to at least handle that, a bath, and some decent food, child.” Miguel ordered again as he turned around and began to leave.
However, he paused for a moment before reaching the door. ”And child, my title is not captain. It’s Admiral.” He then resumed walking out the door again, knowing that the two marines will follow his orders to the letter.
”Admiral Gintaka.”
He walked out of the prison cell.

Keys were brought out swiftly and jangled about as Akuma was unbound, his eyes still only having any focus on Miguel. "A bath and clothing I can manage. So long as none of your crew bleeds, I assure you I will be fine." the rattle of his chains hitting the floor soon hit his ears, and as the marines stood back his wings flared out to full size, stretching out as the boy himself cracked his neck and stretched his arms, loosening up everywhere.
As he was about to follow the marines, still rubbing his wrists from the shackles, a final word of "advice" came from his new captain. With a quiet grin he assumed was required, he nodded, seemingly in some respect of the title he had heard used little in the past. "Thank you, Captain Miguel."
With those final words between them, Akuma would follow the marines to his new quarters, told of his new clothes and guided to the bathroom. Before long he was clean once more, and par the wings that now folded behind him, he could pass for an ordinary boy.
Perhaps this little sea trip could really show him how to be more human than demon, if that was indeed such a good thing afterall. CODED BY SYLVIE
