[attr="class","bg"] [attr="class","title"]Background Coming from a small room in the maternity ward of the central care facility of Macchina di Terrano, a crying could be heard. Soft crying, that of a newborn baby girl. This girl, named Luna, had striking scarlet hair and eyes, and her parents were beaming. However, the happiness wasn't meant to be. Not long before her fifth birthday, Luna's father was caught up in a horrific industrial accident at the mechanic shop he was employed at, getting caught in one of the gears and crushed to death. Saddened by the loss, Luna's mother went to the island's leader, Platina Night, matriarch of the Night family, to request a funeral for her husband. Two weeks after the accident, the memorial service was held. Because there wasn't a proper body left after the accident, a closed casket service was held, and much of the island was in attendance, at the insistence of Platina. However, in attendance were only three children, Luna herself, and Platina's twin silver-haired grandchildren, Jack and Jackie. While Jackie kept to herself, Jack quickly went over to Luna, seeing her sadness and doing his best to try and cheer her up. Despite the somber occasion, Luna couldn't help but giggle at the boy's antics, which elicited a ridiculously goofy, gap-toothed grin from Jack in response. This only further encouraged Jack, who, not exactly being the most situationally aware of children, decided to up his antics, accidentally knocking over the row of seats in front of them, which was met with yet more laughter from Luna. Unfortunately, the adults didn't find his quite so funny, and sent Jack to sit away from the rest of the procession. Luna, not wanting to be separated from her new friend, quickly followed him, wanting to see more of his gags. This led to a fast friendship between the two children, which steadily grew as years passed. Before long, Luna had actually fallen in love with Jack, as had he fallen for her, but neither could manage to tell the other. It wasn't until years later, when Luna was searching for scrap metal as she usually did on free days, that she was grabbed by a gang of bandits, causing Jack to come rushing to her rescue. However, his heated emotional state caused him to fumble, easily being overtaken by the bandits. Luna watched in horror as the bandits mutliated Jack, screaming as they laughed about cutting away parts of his body, helpless to stop them as the third bandit held her tightly by the shoulder. However, before anything could be done to her, three gunshots rang out, and the shock of it all caused her to faint. When she came to, she was in the drawing room of the Night manor, and she could hear the beeping of medical devices. Rushing to the source of the sound, Luna found Jack laying in a hospital bed, looking completely morose, with a lifeless glassy look in his eyes. Absolutely hating seeing the boy she loved like that, Luna quickly rushed off, holing up in her workshop for nearly the entirety of two years, using every bit of her mechanical knowledge and crafting skill to design new mechanical replacements for the parts the bandits stole from him. During these two years, her mother had remarried, marrying a coworker from the workshop she was employed in. The man attempted to get close to Luna, but was mostly ignored. However, he kept trying, wanting to try and be a good father to the young lady. After the two years, as Luna finally exited the workshop, her mother came up to her, a small box in hand, and handed the box to her, telling her it was her father's coat. Taking the coat from the box and slipping it on, Luna ran out of the house, and ran non-stop to the Night manor, barging in and panting before being noticed by Platina. Once she caught her breath, Luna explained what she had created for Jack, and begged Platina to let her install them. After a few minutes of begging, Platina relented, and assisted Luna in installing the parts. As he woke up, Jack's eyes lit up, one literally and one metaphorically, and stood for the first time in two years. And the first thing he did with his newly regained ability to walk was to walk over to Luna and pull her into a tight hug, confessing his love to her, causing Luna to blush and nearly faint from joy. Shortly after, once Platina left the room, Jack asked Luna a very emotional question. He asked her to spend the night with him, and, stuttering a bit, Luna agreed. However, when she awoke the next morning, exhausted and sore, Jack was nowhere to be seen. In his place was a note, written in Jack's handwriting, with words written on it that caused tears to sting at Luna's eyes. "I can't stay. I have to go out into the world and get stronger. Otherwise, I couldn't protect you. And I couldn't stand to lose the one I love the most. I won't be coming back to this place until I become strong enough to protect everyone. I'm sorry, and farewell. We'll be together again, for sure." Unfortunately for Luna, Jack's family didn't quite believe that he'd run off, assuming Luna was hiding him for some reason, the only one defending her being Jack's twin sister, Jackie, who had finally come into her own as a strong, defiant woman, who could easily tell that Jack's note was authentic and true. Saddened by Jack abandoning her, Luna went into a fit of depression, only made worse by her stepfather running out on them, hooking up with a young streetwalker from the skeevy end of Macchina. Eventually, Luna got fed up with it all, and decided to go after Jack, setting out on a borrowed boat to find the lout that left her and give him a piece of her mind. So, here she is, on the open seas, looking for her lost love. |
