Attire: Markus’ default outfit consists of, beginning from the bottom, a pair of white sturdy boots with dark gold trims, designed to be able to grip just about any surface to ensure good footing. His trousers, dark blue in coloration, aren’t particularly noteworthy. His upper body’s clothing is more detailed, consisting of a white shirt with a dark blue trim and a high collar, and a dark blue coat, decorated with elegant patterns including a light blue trim and medium purples designs on the coattails and upper arms. With brown gloves completing the outfit, the entire outfit looks like a costume for a high class party or some such, though it is actually pretty practical and breathes a lot for the hot climate that is so common.

He has an extra set of clothing, simply a pair of jeans and a white t-shirt, mostly to use when his primary outfit is in the wash, as well as a white apron for cooking purposes.
Abnormalities: Somehow or another, for the most part, Markus has managed to go through his childhood without any significant injuries or traumas. With that said, he does have a few scars on his hands from cutting accidents, but they’ve faded so much they’re nearly invisible.

Markus was born to Sila and Jonathan Hartwin in Orange Town in the East Blue. Relatively speaking, life for him was normal and simple. From a young age, Markus was instilled with a love for food; being the son of a family-owned restaurant would do that. With his family’s restaurant a famous little place, you could say that he had pressure to be part of the family tradition, but he was more than happy to follow in the footsteps. Under his parents’ tutelage, he, over the years, became a talented cook, eventually becoming the main cook of the small-time eatery.

Working in the restaurant wasn’t the only thing in his life, of course. Markus was never really a social boy, however, he managed to get a plucky young lady as a best friend. This girl, a much more extroverted person, essentially Markus’ opposite as a personality, was the daughter of a blacksmith who spent most of her time training for her fighting style or otherwise hanging out. She quite frequently and literally pulled him out his little bubble, forcing him to train under her teacher to try to build up his confidence (which actually worked to some extent, though he chose a different style than her).

Still, despite his meekness, despite often tending to himself and being alone, yearned for adventure, to get out of the restaurant and see the world. Little did he know, just a month after his 18th birthday, the call was going to come to him.

• ⚔ Grip Wrecks – Affectionately referred to as “Grip Wrecks” by Markus’ friend, and referred to as such by Markus due to habit the weapon consists of a deceptively simple-looking pair of gauntlets, given to him by said friend. They are simple to slip on and can be serve both defensive and offensive purposes. Sturdy, well-built, and made of quality metals, Grip Wrecks’ main purpose is to enhance his punches in a manner very similar to brass knuckles (cushioned, of course, to ease the hits on his hands and arms) as well as give him stronger defense in his arms.
  
• ⚔ Throwing Knives – Exactly what it says on the tin. While not a complete expert, he does have a good eye and aim with knives, preferring to use them as distractions or an opening move. Because they aren’t part of his main combat, he only brought five for the start of his journey, consisting of simple steak knives.

• ★ Wooden Spoon – An old spoon that has been in the family for three generations now, considered a family heirloom. It’s seemingly just an old wooden spoon, at least if one was to ask about it without seeing it, but it is actually made of the very rare Adam Wood; but, aside from glittering in the sun and being worth a bundle (not to mention sentimental value), it’s just a normal cooking utensil.
  
• ★ First Aid Kit – Not much to say about this one. It’s a simple medical kit with miscellaneous related items, including disinfectant, bandages, thermometer and painkillers.

• ▶ Martial Artist – Markus is quite skilled in combat in terms of hand-to-hand; for quite a few years, namely, pretty much since he was capable of walking, he trained in a fighting style putting fist-focused strikes for offensive while relying on flexibility and speed for defense (the latter useful for offense as well).
  
• ▶ Basic First Aid – He is far, far, far from being a doctor in any sense of the word, but he knows how to disinfect and treat superficial wounds like cuts, scrapes, and bruises, the highest extent of his medical capabilities being temporary splints for broken bones. He also knows CPR.
  
• ▶ Cooking – Markus was raised in a family-owned restaurant; safe to say he learned cooking very early in his life, especially since he ended up working in the kitchen. With that said, it isn’t like he can create beautiful and tasty high-class dishes that take longer to pronounce than to cook; instead, he prides himself on much more simple dishes, ones that are easy to make, filling, and promote togetherness; essentially, a good family meal. With that said, he does like to give dishes special extra touches from time to time just to put in his own flare. Cooking is more than just following instructions, after all.
