Strengths: Making excellent usage of his Devil Fruit abilities, Hughes moves at speeds unmatched by any man. These speeds also enable him to deliver more attacks in a shorter amount of time and with more power than most can handle using only his bare fists. He's also very good at countering most weapons, the chainmail on the palms of his Catch Gloves serving to allow him to catch things like swords and bullets.

Weaknesses: He needs his gloves and shoes completely intact in order to fight effectively in any meaning of the word. He can also only catch projectile weapons if he knows it's coming and has a clear view of the shooter. Beyond the catching thing, he has no effective way of blocking most weaponry, forcing him to dodge. Finally, if he takes a single, good hit, it's got a very good chance of completely knocking him out of the fight; he can give, but he cannot get.

Hughes developed this from his boxing training upon discovering the immense speed abilities the Sube-Sube no Mi granted him. This style is centered around the above-mentioned speed, making use of it to allow him to deliver more attacks with more power in a shorter time than most people of the planet. One of his favorite maneuvers is to catch weapons at the very last second from a relaxed position.

• ▶ Mach One Auto - He accelerates his right arm to approximately Mach 1 and punches the target approximately 300 times in the course of about 5 seconds.
  
  
• ▶ Mach Twin Auto - Effectively the same as One Auto, but he uses both arms, allowing him to deliver about 900 punches in 10 seconds.
  
  
• ▶ Mach Hammer - He accelerates as fast as he can go and stops just before his opponent, transferring the considerable momentum from the sudden halt into a single punch. This attack often hits with roughly similar force to a Reject Dial, but it inflicts great strain on his body, much like an actual Reject Dial.
  
  
• ▶ Mach Pop Fly - He performs a sliding kick, and at the last second, pops his leg and body upward into a devastating upward kick. The best way to describe it is as like Cammy's Spin Drive Smasher.
  
  
• ▶ Mach Trick - He accelerates his upper body to blinding speeds, allowing him an effect fairly similar to Kami'e; he can dodge a hail of incoming projectiles.
  
  
• ▶ Mach Top - The only technique he needs his shoes off to perform, he takes them off and uses the super-smooth soles of his feet to spin like a top, punching wildly in all directions. Due to the inherently chaotic nature of this attack, he has trouble using it to inflict any significant damage on a specific target. It's used as a crowd-control technique instead.
